Artificial General Intelligence (AGI) is a system that handles intellectual tasks at a human level. For a long time, this seemed like science fiction: it was only shown in movies. Now OpenAI has released GPT-6 Astra and has come very close to talks about the "AGI era"—though the company is in no hurry to officially call the model general intelligence.
In theory, AGI reads a legal document, writes an article, solves complex mathematics, plans a trip, learns a new program, and explains its reasoning—all at the same time. This is exactly the kind of work OpenAI demonstrated in the GPT-6 demo: Astra can do much more than just answer questions—it works on a computer, navigates websites, launches programs, and completes long tasks with almost no prompts.
What capabilities does ChatGPT 6.0 Astra have
Astra shows the most progress where neural networks previously most often gave up: in autonomous actions. Here is what my own measurements and vendor data look like compared to competitors:

What will a ChatGPT user get in practice? Astra should perform tasks directly on behalf of the user. The new model browses websites, fills out forms, works with spreadsheets, and handles complex tasks faster than previous versions. Additionally, it is the first OpenAI model to reach an internal "critical" threshold for cybersecurity.
What the $20 ChatGPT subscription offers
Astra is starting to be rolled out to corporate clients and cybersecurity specialists. In the coming days, access will become available to subscribers of the Plus, Pro, Business, and Enterprise plans. There is no free version yet.
The ChatGPT Plus plan at $20 per month becomes even more attractive: standard Astra is included in the subscription under the same terms. The extended Astra Pro version will only be available to Pro, Business, and Enterprise clients.
Has Astra become artificial general intelligence? Officially, OpenAI has not commented on this. Company President Greg Brockman called AGI a "gray, fuzzy thing," but added that he personally believes that, over time, this model might be called the "point where AGI arrived."
Reasons for skepticism remain. Astra's impressive result in the ARC-AGI-3 test was boosted by auxiliary functions: around the model, OpenAI assembled an agent with memory and access to tools. Because of this, the pure capabilities of Astra itself cannot be separated from the system operating around it.
Creativity will remain with humans for now. But Astra brings ChatGPT closer to a tool that increasingly does not just suggest, but does the work for you.
My verdict: this is not so much a breakthrough to AGI as an evolution toward autonomous agents. The AI market is shifting from "chatbots" to "doers," and Astra is the first serious step in that direction. Investors and developers should closely watch how this model performs in real-world scenarios, not just in demo videos.
