The largest interchain DEX in the Cosmos ecosystem is entering a new phase of its economic model. The Osmosis community has approved proposal #1053 by an overwhelming majority, which completely halts the inflationary emission of the native OSMO token.
Key parameters of the decision
According to the approved initiative, the daily issuance of new tokens will be reduced from 91,324 OSMO to zero. This marks the end of a multi-year practice in which staker rewards were funded primarily by diluting the supply. Support for the proposal was nearly unanimous — 91.1% of voting participants cast their vote "in favor."
From this point on, payments to validators and delegators will be formed exclusively from the protocol's real revenue — trading fees, transaction fees, and other sources of DEX revenue. In effect, Osmosis is transitioning from an inflationary to a revenue-based model of sustainable rewards.
Why this matters for the market
Inflationary emission had long remained one of the main factors putting pressure on the OSMO price: the constant influx of new tokens diluted holders' share and limited the asset's growth potential. The complete elimination of emission removes this structural overhang and shifts the balance of supply and demand in favor of scarcity.
At the same time, the decision creates a rigid link between the protocol's real activity and staking yield. The attractiveness of delegating now depends directly on trading volumes and fee revenue, which incentivizes the ecosystem toward organic growth rather than artificially retaining liquidity through emission.
Cryptalist analysis: Osmosis's transition to a fully revenue-based rewards model is a significant signal for the entire segment of DeFi protocols, where inflationary incentive schemes are gradually exhausting themselves. If the DEX's fee revenue proves sufficient to maintain competitive staking yields, this will strengthen OSMO's scarcity properties and could serve as a benchmark for other projects in the Cosmos ecosystem. In the short term, the market will assess the sustainability of the protocol's revenue base as the primary criterion for the viability of the new model.
