OpenAI has announced the release of the GPT-6.1 Terra model, focused on visual analysis, computer interaction, and solving everyday professional tasks. The new product is already available to users on the Plus, Pro, Enterprise, and Edu plans in the ChatGPT Work environment, as well as in Codex.
Pricing Policy: Aggressive Cost Reduction
The key commercial decision was the cost of API access. The standard rate is set at $1 per 1 million input tokens and $5 per 1 million output tokens. This is 50% lower than the rates for both GPT-5.6 Terra and GPT-6.1 Sol. Such a move significantly changes the economics of model integration for developers and enterprise clients.
Accuracy and Performance: Impressive Momentum
Internal tests demonstrate notable progress in reducing hallucinations. At low reasoning effort, the share of factual errors dropped from 53.6% to 16.7% — more than threefold. On the Terminal-Bench 4.0 benchmark at maximum effort, the model solved 50.3% of tasks versus 21.5% for GPT-5.6 Terra, confirming a qualitative leap in the ability to handle complex multi-step scenarios.
Particular emphasis is placed on visual analysis and computer use — areas where models previously showed unstable results. The reduction in cost combined with increased accuracy creates the preconditions for broader adoption of agentic solutions in corporate practice.
Cryptalist Analysis: OpenAI's price dumping in the API market intensifies competitive pressure on providers, forcing them to reconsider pricing strategies and invest in reducing error rates. For the AI infrastructure market, this is a signal toward consolidation: companies unable to offer a comparable price-to-quality ratio risk losing share in the enterprise segment.
