Consensys has introduced Sovereign Network Interoperability — an infrastructure product aimed at banks and financial organizations. The system enables settlement of securities, currency transactions, and collateral obligations between independent ledgers, eliminating the need to move assets through cross-chain bridges.
The key feature of the architecture is the rejection of the traditional bridge model, which has historically remained the most vulnerable link in blockchain infrastructure. Instead of locking and mirroring assets on the receiving side, the system establishes interaction between independent ledgers directly, which reduces counterparty and technical risks.
What this means for the market
At launch, EVM-compatible networks are supported. Connection of the Canton network — focused on the institutional segment and private settlements — is planned for a later stage. This phased approach reflects a strategy of gradually covering both public and corporate blockchain environments.
The product is addressed specifically to financial institutions for which compliance, settlement security, and independence from third-party custodial solutions are critical. The ability to conduct operations with securities, currency, and collateral within a single circuit between disparate ledgers is a step toward the very "network abstraction" that the market has been talking about in recent years.
The launch intensifies competition in the institutional interoperability segment, where both large infrastructure providers and specialized protocols are currently active. For banks, this is a signal that multi-chain settlements are moving from the experimental plane into the practical one.
Cryptalist analysis: Rejecting bridges in favor of direct interaction between ledgers is an architecturally more mature approach that reduces the attack surface and eliminates the risks of asset locking. If the solution proves reliable when connecting Canton, it could become a standard for institutional settlements and accelerate the integration of traditional finance into the multi-chain environment.
