Sber Bank has provided companies with free access to an AI platform that rapidly assesses their compliance with sustainable development (ESG) standards. Businesses gain the opportunity to save on consulting, but the express assessment provides only an initial picture and does not replace a full audit.

The tool was presented at the SberPraktik venue at the bank's Minsk headquarters. Representatives of leading Belarusian companies, the Ministry of Economy, the UN Global Compact Network, the Belarusian Currency and Stock Exchange, and BIK Ratings took part in the discussion on ESG transformation. The conversation focused on restructuring companies' operations to account for environmental, social, and governance criteria.

What the AI platform offers businesses

According to the developers' vision, any company can use the service to quickly and without consulting costs determine its sustainability level, understand what needs improvement, and receive practical recommendations. The tool suggests how to reduce costs and build more transparent work with partners: employees and clients benefit from more responsible business, while companies that ignore ESG principles risk losing the trust of counterparties.

The service launched in September 2026 on the resources of the UN Global Compact Network in Belarus. Since then, around 80 companies from Belarus, Russia, and Kazakhstan have already tested the tool. Judging by the interest from businesses in the three countries, demand for accessible ESG diagnostics extends beyond a single market.

Sber Bank positions itself as having the highest ESG rating in Belarus and regularly shares expertise and technologies with companies. The bank emphasizes that sustainable development is directly linked to economic efficiency: ESG tools help reduce spending on resources, raw materials, and energy and strengthen the trust of clients, partners, and employees.

How AI and ESG are changing business in Kazakhstan, Russia, and Belarus

In Kazakhstan, ESG criteria are gradually becoming part of the lending process: local banks will introduce ESG checks for large borrowers starting in 2027. Companies from this country are also among the users of Sber Bank's platform, and the express assessment can help them prepare in advance for lenders' questions.

Russia's Sber is promoting AI not only in ESG assessment: about a thousand executives already assign tasks to the AI agent GigaAgent — from analytics to app development. Both projects belong to the group's corporate AI direction, which goes beyond classical banking.

Still, one should not rely on AI without scrutiny. Experts from the Belarusian Chamber of Commerce and Industry's business course "The Exporter's Path" note that neural networks accelerate the analysis of foreign markets, but without proper configuration, details critical for exports are lost in their conclusions. The same approach applies to ESG assessment: the platform's recommendations are useful as a starting point, and companies should make final decisions after verifying the data.

Cryptalist analysis: The launch of free AI-driven ESG diagnostics lowers the barrier to entry into sustainable reporting for small and medium-sized businesses, which strengthens exporters' competitiveness in markets with tightening requirements for lending and supply chains. For institutional investors, this is a signal of the emergence of regional ESG data infrastructure, but the limited depth of the express assessment means that a full audit and independent verification remain mandatory for access to capital.
