An analysis of quarterly 13F filings, covering positions as of the end of June, revealed significant interest from major players in US exchange-traded funds tracking the HYPE token. Thirty institutional investors collectively disclosed holdings in three such products totaling $74.9 million. It is important to emphasize: these figures capture a snapshot as of the reporting date and do not reflect subsequent changes in portfolios.
The leader in terms of holdings was the Brazilian asset management firm Wealth High Governance Asset Management, whose stake is valued at $23.9 million. The top five also included giants such as UBS with a position of $7.5 million, Bank of Montreal ($6.7 million), and market maker Jane Street ($4.4 million). This distribution suggests that interest in HYPE is coming not only from specialized crypto funds but also from traditional financial institutions with long histories.
Since their launch, products from 21Shares, Bitwise, and Grayscale have managed to attract approximately $356.6 million in net capital. The total assets under management of these ETFs have already reached $480.9 million — an impressive figure for an instrument focused on a relatively young asset. This indicates growing demand for regulated ways to gain exposure to HYPE from institutional capital, which has historically been cautious about direct investments in digital assets.
My view on the situation
The disclosure of positions by conservative players such as UBS and Bank of Montreal is a marker of the legitimization of HYPE as an asset class. However, it is worth remembering that $74.9 million is only a small fraction of the funds' total assets, pointing to high concentration among retail investors. In the short term, this creates a risk of heightened volatility, but in the long term, it forms a foundation for further institutional adoption.
