ARK Invest bought 3.3 million shares of SpaceX on its debut day: the position has already exceeded $500 million

On June 15, investment giant ARK Invest executed a massive trade, acquiring nearly 3.3 million shares of SpaceX on the day of the company's official listing. This decision confirms Cathie Wood's strategic bet on the space sector as one of the main growth drivers of the new technological cycle.
By the close of the first trading session, the value of this position had already exceeded $500 million. The shares were priced at $135 each, with the final closing price reaching $160.95. Thus, SpaceX shares surged more than 19.2% on the first day, demonstrating enormous demand from institutional investors.
The bulk of the purchase was allocated to the flagship ARK Innovation ETF (ARKK). SpaceX now accounts for 3.28% of its portfolio, making the company one of the fund's key assets, alongside traditional leaders like Tesla and Coinbase.
Analytical commentary: Such an aggressive entry into an asset at the start of trading is a rare signal. Typically, ARK Invest builds positions gradually, but here we see a clear bet on instant liquidity and long-term potential. Given that Elon Musk continues to dominate the AI and space agenda, this purchase could become one of the fund's most successful investments of the year.
