Huawei has announced HarmonyOS 7: a focus on AI agents and the openPangu 2.0 ecosystem

Huawei continues to strengthen its position in the mobile operating system market by introducing the seventh version of HarmonyOS. The key focus of the update is on the integration of intelligent agents — the new generation of the OS essentially turns a smartphone into a personal assistant with enhanced cognitive capabilities.
The main innovation is the updated voice assistant Xiaoyi, which can now manage over 2,100 system functions of the device. This is not just an improvement in voice control, but a full-fledged step toward an autonomous ecosystem where users can delegate complex interaction scenarios with apps and services to AI. Additionally, Xiaoyi supports integration with 2,000 third-party AI agents, providing access to a wide range of external intelligent modules.
Alongside HarmonyOS 7, the company introduced openPangu 2.0 — an updated family of language models specifically designed to operate within this OS. openPangu 2.0 offers deeper personalization, adaptive learning, and improved natural language processing on Huawei devices.
The stable version of HarmonyOS 7 will be released in the fall of 2026. According to analysts at Counterpoint Research, in the first quarter of 2025 alone, HarmonyOS's share of the Chinese mobile OS market reached 19%, surpassing iOS (16%) and solidifying its second-place position after Android. This confirms the steady rise of the Chinese ecosystem, which is increasingly abandoning Western solutions in favor of its own developments.
