HarmonyOS 7: Huawei bets on AI agents and the openPangu ecosystem

Huawei has officially unveiled the seventh version of its operating system, HarmonyOS, placing a key emphasis on the integration of intelligent agents. In the new platform, the updated voice assistant Xiaoyi has gained access to managing over 2,100 system functions and can also interact with 2,000 third-party AI agents. This dramatically expands the device usage scenarios within a unified ecosystem.

In parallel, the company announced openPangu 2.0, a new generation of artificial intelligence models developed specifically for HarmonyOS. This platform is intended to serve as a foundation for developers creating applications with deep AI integration. The stable version of HarmonyOS 7 is expected to be released in the fall of 2026.

HarmonyOS's market position continues to strengthen. According to Counterpoint Research, in the first quarter of 2025, this OS's share of the Chinese mobile system market reached 19%, already surpassing iOS's figure of 16%. Thus, Huawei is not only recovering its position after sanctions restrictions but is also forming a powerful alternative to Android and iOS in its home market.

Expert opinion: Huawei's strategy of building its own ecosystem with a focus on AI agents is not just an attempt to catch up with competitors, but a deliberate step toward decentralized and autonomous digital assistants. In the context of cryptocurrencies and blockchain, it is important to note that such operating systems could become an ideal environment for implementing decentralized applications and Web3 services, where AI would act as a trusted intermediary. If Huawei continues to integrate with open protocols, we will witness the birth of a truly new platform for the digital economy.
