Fed and BOJ Meetings: How Central Bank Decisions Will Reshape the Crypto Market

The new trading week on global markets started with a decline in oil prices. Fortunately for digital asset holders, geopolitical tensions in the Middle East are gradually easing, putting pressure on Brent and WTI quotes. At the same time, stock index futures are showing a confident upward trend, and US Treasury bond yields are declining after a recent spike. The dollar index is also moving down. All of this suggests that market participants are revising their short-term inflation expectations ahead of key decisions by global central banks.

Cryptocurrencies responded to these macroeconomic shifts with notable growth. Bitcoin and Ethereum saw significant price increases over the weekend. In my observation, investors began actively taking defensive positions as early as Friday, but now we are seeing a rapid adaptation of the financial sector to a more favorable macroeconomic backdrop.

Bank of Japan and the Fed Set the Tone

The main events of this week will be the meetings of the Bank of Japan (BOJ) and the US Federal Reserve. As I expected, the Japanese regulator will continue its course toward normalizing its ultra-loose monetary policy. There is a high probability that the BOJ will raise rates, which could trigger another wave of volatility in carry trade markets. On the other hand, the Fed is likely to keep rates unchanged, but the key point will be Powell's rhetoric.

It is now critically important for investors to pick up on the regulators' signals: whether they will maintain their previous "hawkish" stance or hint at easing inflationary pressure. It is expectations about interest rates and liquidity, rather than individual news, that have been driving the dynamics of stocks, commodities, and cryptocurrencies recently.

Cryptalist Analysis: The market has entered a waiting mode. If the Fed hints at a possible rate cut in the second half of the year, we will see a strong impulse for risk assets, including crypto. However, any "hawkish" rhetoric could trigger profit-taking. Bitcoin is currently testing the resistance zone, and it is the central banks' decisions that will determine whether it can consolidate higher and continue the rally.
