Elon Musk and the Quadrillion: Factories on the Moon and Mars as the Only Path to Wealth

A recent discussion on social media erupted over the fact that Elon Musk's wealth falls short of the coveted quadrillion dollars by nearly a trillion—specifically, $998.9 trillion. The billionaire not only refrained from denying this figure but also supported the idea, calling the status of a quadrillionaire "quite realistic." However, in his view, accumulating such sums solely through earthly assets is impossible.

Factories Beyond Earth

In his response, Musk clearly outlined where he believes the upper limit of wealth creation on a single planet lies. To achieve the scale necessary for a quadrillion, factories on the Moon and Mars would be required. "It's realistic, but it definitely requires factories on the Moon and Mars," the entrepreneur emphasized. Thus, he shifts the focus from traditional financial instruments to space expansion.

The Future of Money: Mass and Energy

Musk also touched on a fundamental question about the nature of currency in the future. He suggested that the very concept of money could completely change. "By that time, I think dollars will no longer be the currency. Only mass and energy," he noted. This statement aligns with his long-term vision, where value will be determined not by paper notes but by real physical resources and capabilities.

All these reflections come amid the rapid growth of SpaceX. The company conducted a record IPO with a valuation of $2 trillion on the Nasdaq and briefly entered the top six most valuable companies in the U.S. Musk previously predicted that by 2030, SpaceX's revenue could reach $1 trillion, although in 2025 the company expects to earn $18.7 billion. Under a contract with SpaceX, he will receive 200 million shares with enhanced voting rights if a permanent colony of at least one million people is established on Mars.

Analyst's opinion: Musk's statements about a quadrillion and the new nature of money are not just shock value but a logical continuation of his strategy. He shifts the discussion from the realm of financial speculation to that of technological expansion. For the crypto industry, this is a signal: if Musk is right, decentralized systems capable of operating with units of "mass and energy" could become the foundation of a future economy extending beyond Earth.
