Assault on $1800: Aggressive Ethereum purchases worth $2.8 billion in six hours
The recovery of Ethereum (ETH) above the psychologically important level of $1800 was accompanied by a powerful surge in aggressive demand on the Binance exchange. According to on-chain analytics, the volume of market buy orders (Taker Buy Volume) exceeded $1 billion in a single hourly interval. This is a record level since June 5, when the asset was trading near $1605.
The key difference between the current movement and previous ones is the timing. Earlier this month, a similar volume of accumulation was recorded at lower price levels. Now, the wave of aggressive buying occurred precisely at the moment of breaking through the critical resistance of $1800. This indicates that large market participants (whales) were willing to pay a premium to enter a position, confirming the significance of this threshold.
Binance Data: Hourly Record and Six-Hour Total
The cumulative Binance Total Taker Buy Volume over six hours on June 15 reached approximately $2.8 billion. Of this, more than $1 billion came in just one hour. Such a concentration of demand suggests that the move above $1800 was driven not merely by price growth, but by a targeted and coordinated wave of market purchases. The question of the sustainability of this breakout remains open, but the fact of such aggression itself is a strong bullish signal in the short term.
Expert Opinion: Capitulation or Bottom?
Alongside this, analysts note that Ethereum is experiencing a prolonged phase of capitulation that has been ongoing for several months. Historically, such periods of intense stress have preceded the formation of a bottom. However, the current situation differs from last year: selling pressure is not easing, and the process of bottom formation is dragging on.
More optimistic is the founder of the MN Fund, Michaël van de Poppe. He has long identified the current range as an attractive entry point for spot positions over a 6–12 month horizon. In his view, the next stage will be the formation of a higher low and a breakout of the 0.03250 level in the ETH/BTC pair, which would open the path to a return to an uptrend.
My analysis: The surge in Taker Buy Volume of $1 billion in an hour is an extreme indicator that typically precedes local tops, rather than the start of a sustainable trend. To confirm a bullish scenario, ETH needs not only to consolidate above $1800 but also to form a higher low. For now, the market remains in a zone of high uncertainty, and the prolonged capitulation could lead to a retest of lower levels.
