Claude is rapidly gaining market share among Singapore startups: narrowing the gap with ChatGPT

The AI tool market for startups in Singapore is undergoing notable changes. According to the latest data, demand for Anthropic's Claude has surged to record levels: over the past 12 months, the number of paying customers for the service has increased by 258%, while their spending volume has grown 17-fold.

A year ago, the situation was drastically different: OpenAI had more than four times as many paying startups in the region as Anthropic. However, the gap has now narrowed to 1.5 times. Claude's share of total AI platform spending by Singaporean startups has reached 37%.

Growth of the AI Tool Market

Overall, the number of startups in Singapore actively using AI tools has increased by 42%. Notably, the number of companies working with three or more platforms simultaneously has more than doubled. This indicates that businesses are moving away from relying on a single provider and are diversifying their AI strategies.

My analysis: Claude's sharp rise is no coincidence. Anthropic is betting on model safety and transparency, which is especially valuable for startups in regulated jurisdictions like Singapore. If this trend continues, we could see parity between the two giants in this market within the coming quarters.
