SpaceX has officially confirmed the signing of an agreement to acquire the AI service Cursor. The deal is valued at a colossal $60 billion — a sum that places Cursor among the most expensive startups in the world.

It is important to note that the settlement will be made exclusively with SpaceX Class A shares. The exchange ratio will be calculated based on the volume-weighted average closing price over the seven-day trading period preceding the deal's completion. This is a standard but crucial mechanism that allows both parties to minimize volatility in the final stage.

Timeline and Regulatory Hurdles

The deal is expected to close in the third quarter of 2026. The delay is due to the need for approval from regulators — both antitrust authorities and, likely, security committees, given the dual-use nature of the technologies. Earlier, in April, SpaceX had already secured an option to purchase Cursor for $60 billion or pay an alternative compensation of $10 billion under a joint work agreement. Now, the option has turned into a firm intention.
