Anthropic has overtaken OpenAI in the race for corporate wallets: Ramp data

The corporate landscape of generative AI is undergoing significant changes. According to my analysis of data from the fintech platform Ramp, which tracks spending by over 70,000 companies, Anthropic surpassed OpenAI in May 2026 for the first time in terms of the share of paid corporate subscriptions.

Anthropic's share rose by 2.5 percentage points, reaching 41%. OpenAI's figure remained virtually unchanged, settling at 39.5%. This is a landmark event, especially considering the growth occurred amid serious pressure from the Donald Trump administration.

Conflict with the White House did not hinder growth

Notably, the surge in subscriptions coincided with a period of acute conflict between Anthropic and the White House. Washington demanded that foreign individuals be denied access to the latest Mythos 5 and Fable 5 models. This effectively forced the startup to withdraw these models from the market, which seemingly should have undermined customer trust. However, the business demonstrated the opposite reaction.

The key driver of growth was the Claude Opus family of models, which continues to be actively integrated into corporate processes. Enterprises apparently value the stability and security of Anthropic's available solutions more than the potential risks from the political instability surrounding the company.

My expert assessment: This case confirms that corporate users vote with their dollars for quality and reliability, not for loud headlines. Anthropic is winning through deep specialization and trust in its flagship product, Claude Opus, even when its more advanced versions are subject to political bans. OpenAI, in turn, urgently needs to rethink its strategy for retaining B2B clients, otherwise the lag could become a trend.
