Snap has announced SPECS: standalone AR glasses with a powerful processor and data protection.

Snap Inc. has officially unveiled SPECS — a portable computer in the form of augmented reality glasses. The device is already available for pre-order at a price of $2,195. Shipments to the US, UK, and France will begin this fall.
The main feature of SPECS is full autonomy. The glasses operate without being tethered to a smartphone or external modules. The device weighs between 132 and 136 grams, with a body made of durable TR90 polymer. This makes SPECS lightweight and comfortable for prolonged wear.
Technical Specifications
The field of view reaches 51 degrees — one of the widest among consumer AR devices. Inside, two Snapdragon processors ensure low signal latency of just 7 milliseconds. Battery life is up to 4 hours on a single charge, and up to 20 hours with the charging case.
The lenses feature an electrochromic coating that automatically adjusts tint levels within 10 seconds based on lighting conditions. This allows comfortable use of the glasses both indoors and outdoors.
Software and Controls
SPECS run on the proprietary Snap OS operating system. The interface supports gesture and voice control. Users have access to navigation apps, productivity tools, and educational programs. Developers have received an updated Lens Studio toolkit for creating AR effects. AI assistants integrated into the system can analyze the surrounding environment in real time.
Privacy and Security
Snap has emphasized data protection. The glasses are equipped with an LED indicator that lights up during video recording. Most data is processed directly on the device without being sent to the cloud. Users can independently manage their sync history and delete recordings.
My comment: Snap is confidently carving out a niche in premium AR devices, betting on autonomy and privacy — key factors for mass adoption. However, the $2,195 price tag and limited shipping geography still place SPECS in the category of a niche product for enthusiasts and developers.
