Snap launches standalone AR glasses SPECS: analysis of technical specifications and market positioning
Snap Inc. has officially announced SPECS — a portable computing module integrated into the form factor of augmented reality glasses. The device is already available for pre-order at a price of $2,195, placing it in the premium segment of wearable electronics. Shipments to the US, UK, and France will begin in the fall.
The key difference between SPECS and its predecessors is full autonomy. The glasses do not require connection to a smartphone or an external computing unit. The device weighs between 132 and 136 grams, and the body is made of lightweight TR90 polymer, making it comfortable for prolonged wear.
The technical specifications are impressive: the field of view is 51 degrees — one of the best in the industry. The device is equipped with two Snapdragon processors, and the Motion-to-Photon latency is reduced to 7 milliseconds, which is critical for immersion without motion sickness. Developers have received an updated Lens Studio for creating AR content, and AI assistants capable of analyzing the environment in real time are integrated into the system.
Snap has paid special attention to privacy: the glasses are equipped with an LED recording indicator, and data processing is primarily performed on the device itself, without sending it to the cloud. Users can control the sync history and delete recordings.
