The Origin Wukong quantum computer has received post-quantum protection: over 1 million tasks completed in secure mode

China's superconducting quantum computer Origin Wukong has become the first of its kind to integrate a post-quantum cryptography (PQC) architecture. Developers from the Anhui Province Quantum Chip Laboratory reported that the system has already successfully completed over 1 million computing tasks in a secure mode. This landmark achievement demonstrates the practical readiness of quantum computing for implementing cryptographically robust protocols.

Protection against "harvest now, decrypt later" attacks

The 72-qubit computer uses the built-in software module Origin Rock. This solution ensures data transmission protection against both classical attacks and future quantum algorithms capable of breaking traditional cryptosystems. Special attention is paid to preventing so-called "harvest now, decrypt later" attacks — the theft of encrypted data today with the aim of decrypting it in the future, when quantum computers become powerful enough.

The technology is already being tested by Chinese industrial enterprises and government agencies. Since its public launch, Origin Wukong has been operational for over two years, recording 49 million visits from users in 192 countries.

China's plan for PQC standardization

Integrating PQC protection into a quantum computer is part of China's large-scale plan to create national standards for post-quantum cryptography. Authorities intend to approve them within the next three years to ensure the security of critical infrastructure. This step is especially important amid the global quantum race, where data security is becoming a top priority.

My comment: The achievement of Origin Wukong is a powerful signal for the entire industry. If quantum computers are already integrating PQC, it means the threat to current cryptosystems is real and imminent. The cryptocurrency market, which is lagging behind in this regard, must accelerate the transition to post-quantum standards, otherwise it risks facing catastrophic consequences.
