HSBC giant launches 200 AI scenarios powered by Google Cloud: a breakthrough in banking

Google 2025

British banking titan HSBC has officially formed a strategic alliance with Google Cloud, aimed at fully integrating artificial intelligence into its global operational network. The partnership is based on the use of advanced Gemini models from Google DeepMind — this is not just a pilot project, but a full-scale transformation.

According to my analysis of the roadmap, HSBC plans to deploy over 200 different AI use cases within the next two years. The expected economic impact exceeds $100 million. These funds will be generated through a combination of revenue growth from personalized services and significant optimization of internal processes.

Three Pillars of Automation

The project is structured around three key vectors, each representing a distinct growth area:

  1. Wealth Management and Personalization. AI analytics will enable the provision of investment advice to clients with a level of customization previously unavailable for the mass segment. This is a direct path to increasing assets under management.
  2. Anti-Fraud and Compliance. Implementation of generative AI to detect suspicious transactions. HSBC reports a twofold acceleration in response to financial threats. In an era of rising cybercrime, this is a critical advantage.
  3. Employee Productivity Enhancement. Expansion of the AI assistant's functionality, reducing meeting preparation time from hours to minutes. This directly impacts decision-making speed and employee KPIs.

HSBC CEO Georges Elhedery emphasized that the technology will allow scaling a human-centric approach while retaining final control with humans. Already, over 600 banking applications run on Google Cloud's infrastructure. The new agreement will expand this stack with the Gemini Enterprise agent platform, paving the way for creating fully autonomous financial agents.

Expert Commentary: This is not just another vendor-bank deal. HSBC is betting on Gemini as a foundational platform to rebuild its entire business logic. If the model meets expectations across 200 scenarios, we will witness a standard that competitors will replicate. However, the key risks are regulatory barriers and data quality in legacy systems. Without addressing these, even the most powerful model will remain an expensive toy.
