Bhutan sends bitcoins to exchange again: 533 BTC sent to Binance

The government of Bhutan has once again drawn the attention of the crypto community by moving a significant portion of its Bitcoin reserves. According to data from the analytical platform Arkham, wallets associated with state structures of this Himalayan country transferred 533 BTC to the largest cryptocurrency exchange, Binance. At the current exchange rate, the value of this amount is approximately $34.5 million.
After the transaction, about 1,750 BTC remained on the tracked addresses. This is not the first time Bhutan has moved part of its digital assets to trading platforms, which may indicate an intention to sell off some reserves to cover budget needs or finance infrastructure projects.
Mining as the Foundation of the National Reserve
The formation of Bhutan's Bitcoin reserve has a unique nature: the state actively uses surplus hydroelectric power for cryptocurrency mining. Thanks to an abundance of cheap renewable energy, the country has been able to launch at least four specialized facilities for Bitcoin mining. This approach allows Bhutan not only to diversify its financial assets but also to monetize its natural resources.
However, in recent months, a notable trend has emerged: the inflow of new coins into the national fund has virtually ceased. This could be due to disruptions in mining operations, reallocation of electricity for other needs, or a temporary suspension of activities. Nevertheless, the remaining 1,750 BTC represent a substantial reserve, valued at over $113 million.
Expert Commentary: Moving Bitcoins to an exchange is a classic signal of an intention to sell assets, especially at the state level. For Bhutan, whose economy is heavily dependent on external factors, selling part of its crypto reserve could be a pragmatic step. However, the halt in new coin inflows raises questions: is the country facing technical issues, or is this a temporary pause before a large-scale upgrade of mining infrastructure? In any case, the market will be closely watching further movements from these wallets.
