Ethereum Foundation loses key leader: co-executive director steps down

The Ethereum Foundation continues to experience turbulence in its leadership. Co-Executive Director of the organization, Xiao-Wei Wang, has officially announced her departure from both her position and the foundation's board. This decision was made after an extended sabbatical, which Wang used to reassess her professional and personal priorities.
In her statement, Wang emphasized that a reevaluation of life goals was the primary reason for her departure. She is leaving an organization that played a central role in her career, but now, according to her, it is time for new horizons. This move marks another significant personnel loss for the Ethereum Foundation, which has been undergoing a period of active reorganization in recent months.
A Wave of Change in Leadership
Wang's departure is not an isolated incident. In February 2025, Tomasz Stańczak left a similar role as co-executive director, sparking a wave of discussions within the community. Bastian Aue temporarily took his place, and he will now likely have to take on even more responsibilities. These reshuffles raise questions about the strategic stability of the foundation, especially amid growing competition from other blockchain ecosystems.
From my perspective, the current situation at the Ethereum Foundation is not a crisis, but rather a natural stage of evolution. The departure of key figures may be linked to the need to update the management model so that the foundation can respond more effectively to market challenges. However, the community should closely monitor who will fill the vacant positions, as the long-term trajectory of the entire Ethereum ecosystem depends on it.
