AI agents take control of the physical world: Claude Opus 4.7 operates a robot dog 20 times faster than humans

AI startup Anthropic

The crypto industry has grown accustomed to the idea that artificial intelligence primarily involves working with data and code. But recent tests show that AI is rapidly invading the world of physical tasks. Anthropic's Claude Opus 4.7 model demonstrated impressive results in controlling a four-legged robot, completing the setup and programming of the "robot dog" 20 times faster than a team of human engineers would have.

This refers to the second phase of the Project Fetch experiment, which began back in August 2024. At that time, employees with no robotics experience attempted to program a robot using an AI assistant. Now, Claude Opus 4.7 worked almost autonomously, under minimal researcher supervision.

What did the AI do?

The neural network independently completed a full cycle of tasks:

  • connected to onboard sensors, including a video camera and LiDAR;
  • wrote a program for manual control;
  • created a trajectory monitoring system;
  • configured an object recognition algorithm.

The results were not just impressive—they change the perception of AI capabilities. Opus 4.7 proved to be 18 times faster than a team using previous model versions, and 37 times faster than humans working without chatbot assistance. Moreover, the volume of code written by the neural network was 10 times smaller than that of human teams, indicating much higher solution efficiency.

It is important to emphasize: this progress is not the result of targeted development. As the experiment authors note, the breakthrough in robotics was a side effect of the general scaling of language models. Anthropic did not implement specialized algorithms for controlling the hardware—the model simply learned to apply its knowledge in a new domain.

Limitations and Prospects

However, despite the impressive successes, Claude still struggles with precise physical actions. The model managed to guide the robot to the target but failed to gently push a ball to a specific point. This requires complex real-time feedback, in which humans still outperform AI.

Anthropic believes the industry is entering an era of "physical AI agents." In the future, neural networks will be able to use standard tools and equipment as effectively as they currently work with software code.

Expert opinion: This experiment is not just a demonstration of technological progress, but a clear signal for the entire industry. We are on the verge of AI agents beginning not only to analyze markets and write smart contracts but also to control physical devices. For the crypto sector, this means that in the coming years, we will see fully autonomous systems for mining, logistics, and even physical security managed by AI. Investors should closely monitor companies operating at the intersection of AI and robotics—this is where new capitalization markets are forming.
