Scammers have become more active: fake access to cryptocurrency under the guise of a closed gateway of the Moscow Exchange

A new wave of fraudulent attacks targeting Russian investors has been recorded in the market. Scammers are offering citizens to purchase cryptocurrency for rubles at the fixed exchange rate of the Central Bank of Russia, using the legend of a so-called "closed gateway" of the Moscow Exchange. This is a classic phishing scheme, but with a new, more plausible setting.

How the Trap Works

The attack begins with mass distribution of targeted advertising and personal messages. The scammers pose as accredited brokers or technical partners of the Moscow Exchange. Victims are promised a unique opportunity to "specially" profitably buy top coins at the Central Bank rate through some test stands.

The deception algorithm is as follows:

  • A potential investor is offered to follow a link to a "closed gateway" to complete a transaction.
  • The user lands on a fake website that visually mimics the interface of an exchange platform.
  • After entering personal data, including bank card details or passwords, all of the victim's savings are completely stolen.

No real closed platforms with ultra-favorable conditions for ordinary individuals, of course, exist. This is merely bait for gullible users.

Position of the Moscow Exchange and Protective Measures

Official representatives of the Moscow Exchange, together with other market participants, are actively combating such schemes. They regularly identify and block malicious websites and phone numbers used by scammers.

It is important to understand: all legitimate testing and trading are conducted exclusively through licensed Russian brokers, the full register of which is publicly available on the Bank of Russia website. You can only work with exchange instruments through official participants. Any offers of "closed access" or "special conditions" are a one hundred percent sign of fraud.

Expert Comment: This scheme is a vivid example of how scammers exploit the ignorance and greed of investors. I strongly recommend exercising extreme caution: never click on links from unverified sources and do not succumb to pressure from promises of super-high returns. The only safe path for investment is through official brokers registered with the Central Bank of the Russian Federation.
