Anthropic has completed training of the successor model Mythos 5: What is known
The field of artificial intelligence has received a new boost: according to independent analyst Andrew Curran, Anthropic has completed training a model that could become the direct successor to the Mythos line. This refers to a system capable of surpassing the capabilities of Mythos 5, though no official confirmation from the company has been received yet — neither the name nor the claimed characteristics of the new model have been disclosed.
Curran notes that the new model could be released under the name Mythos 5.1 or Mythos 6, or it might remain exclusively an internal tool for research purposes. This statement came nine days after export restrictions by U.S. authorities forced Anthropic to suspend work on the Mythos 5 and Fable 5 models. It is worth recalling that Fable 5 was aimed at public access with enhanced security mechanisms, while Mythos 5 was distributed through the internal cybersecurity platform Glasswing.
Why did development not stop?
The suspension of work on previous versions was linked to an order from the U.S. Secretary of Commerce, citing national security concerns. The restrictions affected all foreign employees of Anthropic, including those born outside the U.S., leading to a global shutdown of both models. However, as Curran emphasizes, the blockade not only failed to slow progress but may have accelerated it through resource reallocation.
Notably, open-source competitors such as GLM-5.2 from Z.ai are already showing results comparable to much more expensive closed models. This suggests that the AI market continues to evolve, and administrative barriers cannot stop the technological race.
