Analysis: Crypto PACs have directed over $8 million in media support for candidates ahead of the US primaries

USA США

Political committees linked to the crypto industry have disclosed significant spending on media support for candidates ahead of the primaries scheduled for June 23 in New York, Maryland, and Utah. According to my data, the total amount exceeded $8 million, highlighting the growing influence of digital assets on the American political arena.

The bulk of these funds — over $5.5 million — was channeled through the Protect Progress committee, affiliated with Fairshake, to support Adrian Boafo in Maryland's 5th district. Another $1.4 million was allocated to Ritchie Torres's campaign in New York's 15th district. These injections sparked a sharp reaction: Boafo's opponents publicly called on him to reject external support, labeling it spending by "crypto billionaires" and other special interests.

Analysis and Conclusions

Such large-scale investments in election campaigns indicate a strategic shift: the crypto industry seeks to solidify its influence at the legislative level, particularly on regulatory issues. I believe such spending will become the new norm, as the industry recognizes the need to lobby its interests amid tightening rules. However, the conflict with traditional political forces, as in Boafo's case, could backfire — fueling public skepticism and oversight.
