Crypto lobbyists spent $8 million on US primaries: the influence of digital assets on politics is growing

Cryptalist's analytical service has found that political committees affiliated with the crypto industry spent over $8 million on media support for candidates ahead of the primaries held on June 23 in New York, Maryland, and Utah.

The bulk of the spending came from the Protect Progress committee, linked to the super-PAC Fairshake. This fund allocated more than $5.5 million to promote Adrian Boafo in Maryland's 5th congressional district and another $1.4 million to support Ritchie Torres's campaign in New York's 15th district.

These investments demonstrate a strategic shift: crypto lobbyists are no longer limiting themselves to federal elections but are actively influencing local primaries, shaping a favorable legislative framework at the state level. Notably, Boafo's opponents publicly urged him to reject such external support, calling it spending by "crypto billionaires" and other special interests.

I, Cryptalist, believe these figures are just the tip of the iceberg. With each election cycle, the funding volumes from crypto-PACs will grow, and we are already seeing the industry transform into a full-fledged political player capable of influencing election outcomes in key districts.
