Awakening of a Sleeping Giant: Whale Sells 27,585 ETH After 7 Years of Silence

Ethereum ETH Эфир 2025

The Ethereum market witnessed a rare event: a wallet that had been dormant for seven long years suddenly activated and liquidated a large position. Over the past two days, the address 0x0965 unloaded 27,585 ETH onto the market, equivalent to $44.84 million at the current exchange rate. The average sale price was $1,625 per coin.

On-chain analysis shows that this whale entered the assets in the early stages of Ethereum's history. Its initial investments were likely made long before the 2021 bull run and the subsequent market recovery. Notably, even after selling at a price far from historical highs, the owner's net profit exceeded $39 million. This suggests an incredibly low entry price — possibly around $200–300 per ETH.

If the whale had decided to take profits at the cycle peak, when ETH traded above $4,800, its unrealized profit would have reached a staggering $130 million. However, as we can see, the investor chose to wait for the current levels, which may signal a shift in sentiment among long-term holders.

Analyst comment: The awakening of such "sleeping" addresses is a classic bearish signal, indicating profit-taking by large players. Although the $44.8 million sale volume is not critical for the Ethereum market, which has daily liquidity in the billions of dollars, the psychological effect could trigger temporary price pressure. In the short term, increased volatility should be expected, especially if other whales follow suit.
