Hyperliquid (HYPE): Analysts predict a 400% surge by 2028 — fundamental analysis or hype?

The decentralized derivatives market continues to attract close attention from major players. Hyperliquid (HYPE) is becoming one of the most discussed projects in this segment. According to recent estimates, the HYPE token could demonstrate colossal growth — more than 400% from current levels, reaching the $319 mark by 2028.

Analysis of the Estimate

The forecast is based on applying a 20x multiplier to the project's expected net profit, which is calculated to reach $8 billion by 2028. This implies a market capitalization for HYPE of around $160 billion, given the current circulating supply of approximately 502 million tokens. Analysts emphasize that the market currently perceives Hyperliquid merely as a fast-growing trading platform for perpetual contracts, underestimating its potential as a full-fledged universal trading ecosystem.

Scenarios and Assumptions

The base case scenario is built on four conservative assumptions: an average annual growth rate of 35% for the crypto derivatives market volume, a 32% market share for decentralized exchanges in this segment, a 30% market share for Hyperliquid itself, and a proportional growth in USDC volume. In addition to the base case, two alternative scenarios were considered:

Bearish Scenario: a token price of $109, representing a 73% increase from current levels. The project's profit in this case is estimated at a more modest $3.8 billion.
Bullish Scenario: suggests a surge to $689, i.e., a 993% increase. This would require Hyperliquid's annual profit to reach $17.3 billion.

Hyperliquid's growth trajectory is compared to the early years of Binance, which transformed from a newcomer into a leader among centralized exchanges within six months in 2017. However, risks cannot be ignored: regulatory uncertainty, the network's validator structure, and the monthly token unlock for the team could put pressure on the price. At the time of publication, HYPE is trading around $63, which is 0.26% lower than the previous day's level, following an update to its all-time high of $76.7 on June 16.

Expert Opinion

Forecasts of 400% or more growth always look attractive, but I would advise treating them with caution. Hyperliquid indeed demonstrates impressive momentum and occupies a solid niche in DeFi, but a 20x multiplier for a cryptocurrency project is a bold assumption. The derivatives market is extremely competitive, and maintaining a 30% market share will be challenging. Investors should consider not only the potential returns but also the volatility inherent in young tokens, as well as the risks associated with the unlocking of large volumes of coins.
