Quantum computing is no longer an abstract concept for India. IBM is preparing to deploy the IBM Quantum System Two, equipped with a 156-qubit Heron processor, in Amaravati. The launch is scheduled for September, and this is not just another laboratory setup — it is one of the company's first two physical quantum machines to be located in the country.

The project is a central element of the ambitious "Quantum Valley" initiative of the state of Andhra Pradesh. Its implementation became possible thanks to a tripartite agreement between the regional government, IBM, and Tata Consultancy Services (TCS). For the crypto industry and blockchain sector, this is a signal: quantum power is approaching Asia, and this directly impacts the future of cryptographic security.

The Heron processor with 156 qubits is not a record in raw power, but a step toward practical fault tolerance. In the context of cryptocurrencies, such progress means that algorithms like Shor's, capable of breaking RSA and ECDSA, are becoming closer to implementation. However, as I have repeatedly emphasized, there is no need to panic yet: for a real threat to Bitcoin, millions of stable qubits are needed, not hundreds. Nevertheless, the placement of such equipment in India will accelerate research in post-quantum cryptography and may spur local startups to develop quantum-resistant blockchain solutions.

My analysis: This move by IBM is strategic not only for India but also for the global landscape. Investments in quantum infrastructure in such a densely populated region with a growing IT sector will create a unique ecosystem. For the crypto community, this is a reminder: the time to prepare for the quantum era is not infinite. Those who are already implementing quantum-resistant algorithms will be one step ahead when the "Quantum Valley" begins to bear fruit.
