The largest corporate holder of Bitcoin, Strategy, has sold 3,588 BTC worth approximately $225 million. This massive sale triggered a drop in the price of the leading cryptocurrency below the $62,000 mark, and at the time of writing, the asset is trading near $61,550.

The event is drawing heightened market attention, not only due to its size. An analysis of Strategy's previous actions shows that similar moves have historically led to significant corrections. A previous sale, which was more than 100 times smaller in volume, was accompanied by a 20% drop in Bitcoin's price. The current transaction, being significantly larger, sets a precedent for much stronger pressure on the market.

However, there is more behind this transaction than just profit-taking. A fundamental shift in the company's positioning is observed. While Strategy previously positioned Bitcoin as "digital gold" — a long-term store of value — the rhetoric and actions now indicate a paradigm shift. The company is increasingly viewing its largest asset as "digital credit" — a tool to support its own credit model and manage liquidity.

Rhetoric as a Strategy Indicator

This conclusion is also supported by an analysis of the management's public statements. A study of the company CEO's posts on social network X from 2020 to 2026 revealed a clear trend. Starting around 2024, the frequency of using the term "digital gold" sharply decreased. It was replaced by the concepts of "credit" and "digital capital." This shift in vocabulary is not a coincidence but a reflection of deep changes in the business model.

The sale of such volume by a key market "bull" is a worrying signal. A company that was a symbol of unconditional faith in Bitcoin is now acting as a seller. This inevitably heightens investor concerns and adds additional pressure to an already volatile market.

My professional opinion: Strategy's sale is not just a one-time action but a potential beginning of a new phase. If the company is indeed transitioning from a "hold" model to actively managing its Bitcoin reserve for credit operations, this could mean we will see new waves of sales. For the market, this implies a reassessment of the role of one of the largest players and, possibly, the formation of a new, lower price range in the medium term. Investors should closely monitor Strategy's next steps, as they could set the tone for the entire market in the coming months.
