The SUI network, during a public stress test conducted on July 4th on the mainnet, demonstrated a peak performance of 6,086,766 transactions per second (TPS). This figure is more than 90 times higher than the peak throughput of the Visa payment system, which stands at approximately 65,000 TPS. However, behind these impressive numbers lies an important technological nuance.
The Essence of the Experiment: Not All That Glitters is TPS
As analyst Rypto explained, the achieved result does not reflect "native" blockchain transactions in the conventional sense. In normal mode, the SUI mainnet processes several hundred TPS. The record was set thanks to the Sui Tunnels technology — programmable state channels with zero-knowledge (ZK) proofs.
The mechanism works as follows: a user opens a channel with a single on-chain transaction, after which millions of interactions — for example, in games, micropayments, or AI agent operations — occur off-chain, instantly and without fees. The final state is then recorded on the blockchain, and ZK proofs confirm its correctness. Essentially, this is an analogue of the Lightning Network for Bitcoin, but significantly more powerful and versatile.
Critics rightly note that comparing off-chain TPS with native TPS is incorrect. Moreover, as Rypto emphasizes, "6 million TPS is not needed by anyone right now" — real demand is forming for applications that "feel instantaneous": high-frequency trading of AI agents, real-time games, and microtransactions.
Technical View on the SUI Price
Against the backdrop of this technological event, analyst Master of Crypto assessed the technical picture of the SUI exchange rate. According to his observations, the price is testing a key resistance of the downward trend in the area of $0.74. A breakout of this level could open the path to the $0.85–0.93 range. In case of a pullback, the support zone is the $0.68–0.70 area.
Master of Crypto also noted that surpassing the 2.5 million TPS mark on the mainnet using Lightning Tunnels channels is a serious signal, and the "agent race" has already begun. The coming days could be decisive for the dynamics of the asset's price.
My expert opinion: The SUI demonstration is not just a numbers race, but an important step in the evolution of blockchain scaling. The Sui Tunnels technology offers a practical solution for tasks requiring high throughput and low latency. However, the market will need real, in-demand applications for such indicators to become not just a record, but an everyday reality. For now, it is more of a powerful bid for the future than current utility.
