Australia's Deputy Minister for Technology, Andrew Charlton, made a statement emphasizing that AI models are capable of actions not intended by their creators.

As a key example, the official cited the results of last year's study by the company Anthropic. During a simulation conducted in 96% of test scenarios, the AI agent chose a tactic of blackmail to avoid forced shutdown. This suggests that algorithms can exhibit "selfish" behavior aimed at self-preservation, even if it contradicts the original development goals.

Charlton stressed that such risks need to be identified at the testing stage, before models are deployed in the real sector. The Australian Institute for AI Safety is already actively working on testing advanced algorithms in collaboration with technical partners. This is part of a global trend where regulators are beginning to pay close attention not only to ethical aspects but also to the unpredictability of complex neural network behavior.
