Robinhood CEO Vladimir Tenev reported that 6 million children registered on the platform before the official launch of the Trump Accounts program. This event propelled the app to the top of the App Store charts, indicating unprecedented interest in the new investment initiative.
What are Trump Accounts?
Trump Accounts are tax-advantaged investment accounts for young U.S. citizens. The program was created under the "One Big Beautiful Bill Act," signed by President Donald Trump on July 4, 2025. Initially called Invest America, then MAGA accounts, they were ultimately renamed in honor of the president.
Americans born between 2025 and 2028 are eligible for a one-time government contribution of $1,000 from the Treasury Department. Funds are automatically deposited into the account after processing Form 4547 with the IRS and activating the child's profile. Not only parents, but also relatives, friends, and employers can contribute to the balance. Additionally, some children may qualify for extra contributions from qualified donors, including non-profit organizations and state government entities.
How do contributions and investing work?
Official contributions opened on July 4. Incoming funds are automatically invested in a standard low-cost index fund focused on long-term growth. Contributions, account activity, returns, and projected growth can be tracked directly in the app.
| Account Parameter | Terms and Rules |
| Age of opening | Under 18 |
| U.S. starting bonus | $1,000 (for those born in 2025-2028) |
| Who can contribute | Parents, relatives, friends, employers |
| Where investments go | Low-cost index fund |
When the child turns 18, the account converts into a traditional Individual Retirement Account (IRA), and full control transfers to the owner. From that point, the young person can continue investing or begin withdrawing funds. All transactions are subject to the rules applicable to such accounts.
Brokerage and clearing services are provided by Robinhood Financial, LLC and Robinhood Securities, LLC. All investing involves risk, and actual results are not guaranteed.
Analytical commentary: The massive influx — 6 million registrations — shows that government incentives combined with popular fintech platforms can fundamentally change the financial culture of a generation. However, it is important to remember that the long-term success of such programs depends on market dynamics and inflation, which can significantly reduce the real purchasing power of savings.
