In recent days, information has been actively circulating online that some clients of Alfa-Investments have allegedly gained the ability to conduct cryptocurrency transactions. It is reported that users can top up their accounts from a ruble account at Alfa-Bank and execute trades directly in the broker's interface. Let's figure out how true this is.

What does the bank say?

After contacting the financial organization's support service for clarification, we received a clear answer: currently, such functionality is completely absent on the platform. A bank representative denied the rumors but added that such an option could well appear in the future. This is not surprising, given the bank's strategic focus on developing digital assets.

Let me remind you that Alfa-Bank has been working with digital financial assets (DFAs) since 2025. It was one of the first to launch DFAs pegged to the Bitcoin and Ethereum exchange rates on its own platform, A-Token. This indicates a serious interest and technological readiness for deeper integration of cryptocurrencies.

Why is this important?

The summer of 2026 is a time of active competition among the largest players in the financial sector for promising niches in the crypto industry. A serious rivalry has unfolded in the market:

BankPlans and current status
SberDeveloping its own crypto wallet and custodial service
VTBCreating a digital depository based on the status of a DFA operator
T-BankExpects to obtain a license through the Atomize platform

The launch of Sber's projects is expected a few months after the law "On Digital Currency and Digital Rights" comes into force. The Central Bank is guiding participants toward September 1, and First Deputy Chairman of the Central Bank Vladimir Chistyukhin has suggested that legal cryptocurrency operations could start as early as November 2026.

Against this news backdrop, the rumors surrounding Alfa-Bank seem quite logical. However, at this point, the credit institution has not officially confirmed them. In my opinion, it is only a matter of time: once the regulatory framework is fully established, we will see a mass launch of such services from all major players, and Alfa-Bank, judging by its activity, will be no exception.
