The BNB Chain ecosystem is entering a new phase of the technology race. The project team has published an updated roadmap for the second half of 2026, which includes several ambitious goals. Key among them are the launch of a completely new Layer 1 (L1) blockchain with performance exceeding 100,000 transactions per second (TPS), and another doubling of the mainnet BSC's throughput capacity.

These are not just plans, but a logical continuation of work already done. Six months ago, three priorities were set: speed, throughput, and protocol stability. And the results are impressive. The block interval has decreased from 750 to 450 milliseconds, and in-memory finalization from 1125 to 650 milliseconds. Reference throughput has increased from ~2800 to 5200 TPS. After the Osaka/Mendel hard fork, the number of reorganizations in the BSC mainnet has significantly decreased, indicating improved stability.

This progress was made possible by four key improvements: Block Access List (BAL), incremental snapshots for fast node synchronization, EVM "superinstructions" to reduce overhead, and enhanced voting rules for fast finalization. Special mention goes to the Rust BSC client, which has achieved full compatibility with Reth v2.0, providing a twofold performance increase.

Plans for the Second Half and the New L1 Blockchain

On the horizon for the second half, the team sets three commitments. First, to double the throughput capacity of the BSC mainnet with a view to tenfold growth in the long term. Second, to isolate applications from each other so that a surge in load on one does not degrade the performance of others. Third, to lower the entry barrier through more flexible fees for companies from Web2 and Web3.

However, the main strategic news is the new next-generation L1 blockchain. It is designed for performance exceeding 100,000 TPS, transaction pre-confirmation in less than 50 milliseconds, and block finalization in under one second. The architecture includes several unconventional solutions. The TxStream mechanism abandons the public mempool—the common queue of unconfirmed transactions. Instead, transactions go directly to the block leader, reducing latency and blocking frontrunning by default. The PriorityLane mechanism reserves space in the block for critical traffic: oracle data, liquidations, and cross-chain bridges.

Also included are built-in privacy with selective data disclosure for regulatory compliance and a set of account abstraction tools. This technology makes wallet management more flexible, allowing, for example, paying fees on behalf of a user or logging into an account using a passkey—a passwordless access key instead of a seed phrase. The testnet launch is scheduled for the end of 2026, and the mainnet launch for the beginning of 2027. A separate focus remains post-quantum security: the team is testing a hybrid approach that layers quantum-resistant protection on top of current cryptography.

Analyst's opinion: BNB Chain is demonstrating that it does not intend to cede leadership in the scaling race. Abandoning the public mempool is a bold step that could become a new standard for L1 networks targeting institutional users. If the plans are realized, we will see a blockchain capable of competing in speed with traditional payment systems, which will be a powerful trigger for the mass adoption of DeFi and Web3 applications.
