Elon Musk's space company, SpaceX, has conducted its first on-chain Bitcoin transaction in the last six months. This week, a test transfer of just $88 was recorded between two labeled addresses. For a company holding 18,712 BTC (approximately $1.2 billion at the current exchange rate) on its balance sheet, this event instantly caught the market's attention.
According to data from the analytics platform Arkham Intelligence, the funds were moved from an old address "15atF" to a new one, "bc1q9." Such a microtransaction is a standard procedure when switching wallets or custodial services: a small amount is sent first to verify the new address, followed by the main transfer.
This is not the first time SpaceX has shown activity on the network. In October 2025, after a long pause, the company transferred 2,495 BTC (then worth about $257 million) to two new wallets. And in July 2025, it placed $300 million in custody with Coinbase Prime. Thus, the current transfer may be just a prelude to a larger-scale reserve reorganization.
Sale or Consolidation?
It is important to emphasize that there are currently no signs of asset sales. According to BitcoinTreasuries data, SpaceX's total Bitcoin balance has not changed since the publication of the S-1 report on May 21, which preceded the company's IPO on June 12. Moreover, this report revealed an interesting fact: SpaceX's actual Bitcoin holdings significantly exceeded previous analyst estimates. It was previously assumed that the company owned about 8,285 BTC, but the disclosed documents showed an additional 10,427 BTC that had not been tracked before. This means that the addresses labeled by Arkham reflect less than half of the actual volume.
Given that Elon Musk's stake in SpaceX exceeds 85%, any asset operations are entirely dependent on his decisions. The current test transfer is most likely an internal operation for fund consolidation or a change of storage, rather than preparation for a sell-off. However, the market, remembering the company's Bitcoin sales in 2022, remains on alert.
My analysis: The situation around SpaceX is a classic example of how a single microtransaction from a major player causes excessive volatility in sentiment. In the current market conditions, with Bitcoin trading in the $60,000–$65,000 range and the Nasdaq-100 index hitting new highs, any move by a giant like SpaceX will be perceived in an exaggerated manner. I lean towards the version of technical asset consolidation. Nevertheless, the new address "bc1q9" should be monitored in the coming days—if a large transfer follows, it will signal a change in reserve management strategy, which could put short-term pressure on the market.
