Elon Musk's space company has made its presence known in the on-chain space for the first time in a long while. This week, a test transfer of bitcoins totaling just $88 was recorded between two labeled addresses belonging to SpaceX. Although insignificant in volume, this event instantly caught the market's attention.

According to the latest data, SpaceX holds 18,712 BTC on its balance sheet. Given that the company typically moves its reserves only when it becomes noticeable to the market, any movement from its wallets is perceived by traders as a potential signal. A logical question arises: is this simply a change of storage, or a prelude to a sell-off?

Movement within its own infrastructure

On-chain platform analysts recorded a transfer from the outdated address "15atF" to a new one, "bc1q9". Such test transactions are standard practice when changing wallets or custodial services: first, a small amount is sent to verify the new address, and then the main funds are transferred.

SpaceX has used this scheme before. In October 2025, after a long pause, the company transferred 2,495 BTC (worth $257 million) to two new wallets. And in July of that year, it placed $300 million in custody with Coinbase Prime. Thus, the current activity could well be part of a planned asset rotation.

No signs of selling, but the context is alarming

It is important to note that no signs of profit-taking or fund withdrawals to exchanges have been detected so far. According to public reports, SpaceX's total balance of 18,712 BTC has remained unchanged since the publication of the S-1 document before the company's IPO in June 2025.

However, the context of what is happening adds intrigue. This week, SpaceX shares entered the Nasdaq-100 index, while bitcoin itself is trading around $62,000 — roughly half its October peak of $126,000. The company's current holdings are estimated at about $1.2 billion, compared to $1.45 billion at the time of data disclosure.

My analysis: For now, we are observing a classic procedure of internal fund consolidation, not preparation for a sell-off. However, the market is extremely sensitive to any movements by "whales," especially ones as prominent as SpaceX. If new large-sum transactions from this address follow in the coming days, it will be the first sign of a possible partial liquidation of reserves. For now, it is just a technical transfer, nothing more.
