Elon Musk's space company has made an on-chain Bitcoin transaction for the first time in a long while. This involves a symbolic transfer of $88 between two labeled addresses. The amount is negligible compared to the company's total portfolio, valued at 18,712 BTC, but the mere fact of asset movement has drawn close market attention.
Test or Signal?
Analysts have recorded the movement of funds from the old address "15atF" to a new one, "bc1q9". Such micro-transfers are standard practice when changing storage: first, a small amount is sent to verify the new address, followed by the transfer of the main volume. SpaceX has used this scheme before: in October 2025, after a long pause, the company transferred 2,495 BTC (worth $257 million) to two new wallets, and in July 2025, it placed $300 million in custody with Coinbase Prime.
The market also remembers past sales: during the 2022 downturn, SpaceX sold two large batches of coins. For comparison, Tesla has consistently held 11,509 BTC on its balance sheet since 2024. However, there are currently no clear signs of a sell-off. According to BitcoinTreasuries data, SpaceX still holds 18,712 BTC — the amount has not changed since the publication of the S-1 report on May 21, which was released ahead of the IPO.
Control in One Hand
It's important to understand: Elon Musk's stake in SpaceX exceeds 85%, so any asset operations depend solely on his decisions. This adds intrigue, especially against the backdrop of the current market conditions. This week, SpaceX shares entered the Nasdaq-100 index, while Bitcoin is trading around $62,000 — roughly half of its October high of $126,000. The current reserve is estimated at $1.2 billion, compared to $1.45 billion at the time of data disclosure.
Information about wallets quickly impacts sentiment. Last week, a report on larger sales by MicroStrategy sparked a wave of discussions. Meanwhile, transactions involving old Bitcoin addresses typically indicate consolidation rather than selling. If events follow the usual pattern, the $88 transfer is more likely an internal operation than a withdrawal. But new transactions from this address in the coming days will show whether a real asset reshuffling has begun.
My View: The market tends to overestimate the significance of every movement of funds by large holders. SpaceX, like Tesla, demonstrates a long-term interest in Bitcoin, and the test transfer is probably just technical routine. However, given the concentration of power in Musk's hands, any of his actions could have a disproportionately strong impact on the market. Keep an eye on the addresses — if large movements follow, it will be a signal of a strategy change.
