The Russian mobile device market is undergoing a structural shift. Demand for smartphones with built-in neural network features has shown steady growth, and this is not just a statistical fluctuation. Over the past twelve months, the share of such gadgets in the retail network of one of the leading operators has increased from 6.5% to 16%. Total sales of models with artificial intelligence rose by 27%.
What lies behind these figures? First and foremost — an aggressive expansion of the product range. The number of available models with AI functionality has grown by almost 150%, which directly stimulates consumer interest. However, it is important to note a caveat: currently, only 2.8% of Russians actually use such devices. The statistics only include models whose AI functionality is fully available and stable within Russia. Gadgets with blocked or inactive options — of which there are many on the market — were not taken into account.
Buyer Profile: Who Chooses "Smart" Smartphones?
The distribution of buyers by gender and age appears fairly even, indicating the maturity of the segment. Among owners of tech-savvy new products, 58% are men and 42% are women. The greatest interest in AI-enabled devices is shown by customers aged 37 to 47 — this group accounts for 40% of all sales. They are followed by users aged 25 to 36 (22%) and the age cohort from 48 to 58 (21%).
Where is the AI Smartphone Market Heading?
Today, advanced neural network tools are the prerogative of premium flagship lines. But the situation will change in the next two to three years. Full-fledged AI features will begin to massively penetrate the mid-budget segment. This is inevitable, given the overall trajectory of digitalization in the country.
The trend toward AI integration extends far beyond consumer electronics. More than half of Russian enterprises have already begun integrating artificial intelligence into their business processes, although industrial-scale adoption is still far off. The state is also actively involved in the process: in early July 2026, the State Duma approved a framework law on AI regulation, and the government is implementing smart services in its own operations. Notably, the technology is also being applied to specific tasks — for example, the Moscow Exchange is launching an AI system to identify transactions with signs of market manipulation and insider trading.
Cryptalist Comment: The 27% growth is just the tip of the iceberg. The real market potential will be unlocked when AI functions cease to be a "showcase" and become a working tool for the mass user. For now, the key barrier is not price, but the availability and stability of neural network services specifically in the Russian market. Once manufacturers solve this problem, we will see not just growth, but an explosive leap.
