Just one week after the official launch of the Robinhood Chain network, trading volume on decentralized exchanges (DEX) in this ecosystem reached a record $563.9 million. Data from July 8 shows explosive interest in the new L2 network, built on Arbitrum and focused on the tokenization of real-world assets (RWA). However, despite the stated focus on institutional assets, the main driver of growth turned out to be the memecoin Cash Cat (CASHCAT).
On the same day, the network recorded 193,187 active addresses — an impressive figure for a blockchain that has existed for less than 10 days. Cash Cat became the absolute leader in trading volume, accumulating about $98 million in a single day. The number of unique traders of the token exceeded 8,720 — more than any other asset on the network. The coin's name is a direct reference to the original name of the Robinhood service, which was called CashCat before the rebranding.
Memecoin as a Catalyst
The rise of Cash Cat began after a public comment from Robinhood co-founder Vlad Tenev. In his post, he noted that although Robinhood Chain is being created as the best network for RWA tokenization, it is "also great for memecoins." This was enough for CASHCAT to update its all-time high at $0.147 and take a dominant position among all tokens on the network.
By July 9, the price corrected to $0.105, losing about 17% in a day. However, this did not dampen overall enthusiasm: other Robinhood-themed memecoins — Dog In Hood and The Robinhood — also joined active trading, entering the top by trading volume.
It is important to emphasize: the Cash Cat project has no official connection to either Robinhood or Tenev himself. This is a classic example of how cultural context and public support from a key figure can trigger a speculative boom on new infrastructure.
From an analyst's perspective, the current situation is telling. Robinhood Chain was conceived as a network for institutional tokenization, but the first significant surge in activity was driven precisely by retail speculation on memecoins. This echoes the early days of Solana or BNB Chain, where memecoins also served as a "gateway drug" for mass users. The question is whether Robinhood Chain can sustain this momentum and shift attention to RWAs, or whether it risks turning into yet another "memecoin arena." For now, the market is voting with its wallet for the former.
