The tokenized gold market is experiencing unusual activity. According to the latest on-chain analytics, the net outflow of Tether Gold (XAUT) from centralized exchanges over the past 24 hours has reached $17.4 million — approximately 16 times the daily average. Such a sharp surge in asset withdrawals signals a shift in sentiment among large holders.

Key Whale Movements

The most notable activity came from the investment firm Abraxas Capital, which withdrew approximately 3,931 XAUT (about $15.96 million) from four major platforms: Bitfinex (760 XAUT), OKX (940 XAUT), Bybit (230 XAUT), and Binance (2,001 XAUT). This is not an isolated case. An anonymous wallet (0xD20E), which had been inactive for three years, has resumed accumulating XAUT, withdrawing 953 tokens worth about $3.93 million from Binance over the past three days.

The total weekly XAUT outflow has exceeded $34.1 million, four times the average weekly value. This dynamic is characteristic of long-term accumulation: investors are moving assets to cold storage, with no plans to sell them in the near term.

A Mixed Picture

However, the overall picture is not so clear-cut. Despite aggressive withdrawals, the two largest tracked wallets (0x77134c and 0x28c6c0) have reduced their balances by more than 5,000 XAUT each over the past 30 days. One participant withdrew about 2,900 XAUT (~$11.8 million) in a single day, while another withdrew 757 tokens. This indicates a significant redistribution of assets, which partially offsets the bullish signal from the overall outflow.

Interest in tokenized gold is not limited to XAUT alone. Paxos Gold (PAXG) is also showing notable net outflows, confirming growing demand for this asset class among crypto investors, especially amid volatility in spot gold prices in July.

My analysis: We are witnessing a classic "smart money" accumulation pattern. Whales are using the dip in spot gold prices, driven by geopolitical tensions, to consolidate positions in tokenized equivalents. However, pressure from the largest holders reducing their balances adds uncertainty. The future dynamics of XAUT will be closely correlated with macroeconomic signals, primarily the decisions of the U.S. Federal Reserve.
