The ETH/BTC pair has made a decisive move, breaking through the 0.02858 BTC mark. This key resistance, which had been holding back quotes since the beginning of summer, has finally fallen. I have been closely monitoring this pair, and the current momentum is not just a local spike, but, in my opinion, a fundamental signal of the beginning of a large-scale transformation of the entire digital asset market.
Why ETH/BTC specifically?
This indicator is a barometer of investor sentiment in altcoins. A prolonged rise in the ETH/BTC ratio traditionally indicates a capital flow from Bitcoin into more volatile and promising tokens, triggering an "altseason." The current breakout is the first serious confirmation of such a shift in recent months.
The pair's growth is linked to the revival of the stablecoin segment, active movement towards tokenization of real-world assets, and the emergence of new projects based on Ethereum. Additional catalysts include falling oil prices and progress in the regulatory environment, particularly with the CLARITY Act.
Tom Lee, head of Bitmine, has long held a bullish view on Ethereum. He links the recent wave of ETH sales not to a deterioration in fundamentals, but to routine quarterly portfolio rebalancing. According to him, the aggressive buying phase is nearing completion, but the long-term trend remains upward.
The other side of the coin: caution is advisable
Despite the positive signal, I believe it is necessary to maintain a sober perspective. Over the past three months, the ETH/BTC pair is still down 7.72%, despite this jump. The seven-week outflow from ETH funds, which only ended in late June, has been only partially compensated.
The historical high of ETH/BTC at 0.15 was reached only in 2017, and since then the pair has not been able to approach it. Tom Lee's target of $250,000 for Ether would require a 25-fold increase from that historical peak — an ambitious but not impossible goal if the current momentum develops into a full-fledged trend.
My professional opinion: The ETH/BTC breakout is a significant technical signal that I interpret as the beginning of a market cycle shift. However, confirmation will only come with a sustained hold above the 0.030 BTC level. Until then, any pullback would mean a return to a bearish scenario for altcoins.
