The cryptocurrency market is sending increasingly clear signals of a shift in priorities. The Altcoin Season Index from CoinGlass, a key barometer of capital flow, has settled at the 58 mark. This follows a sharp jump to 64 recorded on June 4. The indicator is holding firmly above the neutral zone, pointing to a gradual but steady shift in investor interest from Bitcoin to a broader range of alternative digital assets.

The index's calculation methodology is simple and elegant: it assesses what share of the top 50 cryptocurrencies by market capitalization has outperformed BTC over the last 90 days. The scale ranges from 0 to 100, and only crossing the 75-point threshold is traditionally considered the official start of a full-fledged altcoin season. The current value of 58 is no longer just a fluctuation but a serious bid for a trend reversal.

BTC Dominance Under Pressure: Capital Flows into Alts

The rise in the CoinGlass index coincides with a notable change in market structure. According to CryptoRank data, Bitcoin's share dropped from 58.12% to approximately 54% in early July, though it has since corrected to 56.3%. Over the same period, the share of altcoins (excluding BTC, Ethereum, and stablecoins) grew from 19.39% to an impressive 24.68%. This is not a coincidence but a direct illustration of the capital rotation process.

However, not all signals are unambiguous. Glassnode analysts warned in late June that the return of the altseason signal was largely driven not by the organic outperformance of altcoins but by a sharp decline in Bitcoin itself. This is an important nuance: we are witnessing selective, not mass, rotation. Capital is concentrating in tokens with real yield and ecosystems like Solana, while small-cap projects continue to face strong selling pressure.

Institutional investors, for their part, are setting a more positive vector. In mid-June, ETF flows turned toward altcoins: fresh capital went into products based on Ether, Solana, and XRP, while Bitcoin funds recorded outflows. This is a classic pattern for the beginning of a phase of strength accumulation for altcoins, although it is not a direct confirmation of an established trend.

My analysis: The current dynamics are not just a "waking up" of altcoins but rather a change in market regime. Further movement toward the 75 mark on CoinGlass will critically depend on whether BTC dominance can continue to decline through the end of July. If so, we will witness one of the most significant altseasons in recent years. If not, the current surge risks being just another false hope in a sideways market.
