Recent activity on the personal wallet of Changpeng Zhao (CZ), co-founder and former CEO of Binance, has drawn close attention from the crypto community. I recorded a series of transactions in which CZ sent a large batch of memecoins on the BNB Chain network for burning. The first to point out this unusual operation was a well-known crypto blogger, sparking a wave of speculation.

What happened on the blockchain?

Analysis of on-chain data shows that numerous different memecoins were transferred to Zhao's personal address. Subsequently, CZ directed the most notable ones to a special burn wallet—an address from which tokens cannot be returned to circulation. Some observers were quick to link this move to some deep strategy, claiming that the Binance founder is thus supposedly continuing to care for the exchange's users even after stepping down as CEO.

However, as a professional analyst, I lean toward more pragmatic explanations. The version about "mutual obligations" between CZ and his audience seems far-fetched.

Official response from CZ

Zhao himself quickly and clearly clarified the situation, dispelling any conspiracy theories. According to him, he had not looked at this wallet for a long time. When he opened it, he found tens of thousands of various coins, which led to an incorrect balance display. Instead of transferring the "junk" tokens to his own address, he made a rational decision—to send them directly for burning. This is a standard practice for cleaning a wallet from spam.

It is important to emphasize: mass distribution of spam memecoins to the wallets of well-known individuals is a long-established practice for attracting attention. This is precisely what explains the accumulation of tens of thousands of coins at CZ's address.

Not the first incident with the same blogger

This is not the first time this blogger has tried to tie his projects to Zhao's name. Earlier, in early July, he published a promotional post in which he praised the $CZ, $TCC, and $AB tokens as leaders of the new memecoin season on BNB Chain. He claimed that the TCC project collaborates with CZ, and that the $AB token is backed by a person personally acquainted with him.

At that time, Zhao was forced to publicly disassociate himself from these projects, stating that he does not own them and knows nothing about them. Both cases share the same pattern: the blogger builds a compelling story around CZ's name, after which the businessman himself has to justify himself to the audience.

Expert opinion: This incident is a clear example of how information noise and the desire to "hitch a ride" on a well-known brand can mislead the community. CZ acts with maximum transparency, and his actions in burning spam tokens are a purely technical operation, not a marketing ploy. Investors should be critical of any claims linking unknown projects to the names of major industry figures.
