The British-American Task Force on Future Markets (TTMF) has published a package of ten recommendations aimed at synchronizing approaches to digital asset regulation between London and Washington. The document contains direct support for stablecoins and promises to harmonize tokenization rules on both sides of the Atlantic. This is a landmark step that could fundamentally reshape the global financial landscape.
Five Key Proposals for the Crypto Industry
Of the ten points, exactly half concern digital assets. The first recommendation is to create a private working group for one year to test cross-border scenarios with tokenized assets. The second is to task the Bank of England, CFTC, FCA, and SEC with developing unified regulatory approaches. Topics under discussion include the finality of settlements for tokenized securities transactions and the possibility of using stablecoins and tokenized money market funds as collateral with central counterparties.
The third recommendation is a joint statement on stablecoins to support the cross-border market. The fourth describes a multi-currency ecosystem where stablecoins, tokenized deposits, and other forms of digital money work in unison. The fifth is to promote technologically neutral rules for crypto assets in the Basel Committee, based on facts rather than specific technology.
Expert Opinion: Why This Is a Historic Moment
Coinbase's Head of Policy for Europe, Katie Harris, called the initiative a "colossal opportunity" for the two largest financial centers to rethink global capital markets through tokenization. She particularly highlighted support for stablecoins as a key settlement asset for cross-border online transactions and a commitment to regulatory alignment.
"The US is betting on decentralized finance to fully unlock the benefits of tokenization. This is a critically important moment for transatlantic cooperation on next-generation financial infrastructure on the blockchain," Harris stated.
For now, these are just intentions: the recommendations do not override current regulatory processes in either country. Agencies will report on progress through the joint Financial Regulatory Working Group (FRWG).
Cryptalist Analysis: The synchronization of US and UK approaches is a powerful signal for institutional investors. If the TTMF recommendations are implemented, we will witness explosive growth in tokenized assets and stablecoins, which will cease to be a "gray area" and transform into a full-fledged tool of the global financial system. This is exactly what the market has been waiting for over the past five years.
