Input Output Global (IOG), the primary developer of the Cardano (ADA) blockchain, has officially transferred control of the Haskell-based network node to the community. This step marks the complete decentralization of not only the protocol and governance but also the project's engineering development.

"Cardano's protocol and governance are already decentralized. Now its development is decentralized as well," IOG stated, emphasizing the completion of a key roadmap milestone.

Project founder Charles Hoskinson characterized the event as "the final stage of the Voltaire era." According to him, the process of transferring authority, initiated by IOG and partners in 2024, was carefully overseen to ensure a smooth transition to a fully decentralized model.

The final change in governance is expected by 2027. According to the plan, several independent companies will maintain at least three implementations of Cardano on the Haskell, Rust, and Go stacks. This ensures network resilience and reduces dependence on a single development team.

The transfer of control took place on the eve of the activation of the Van Rossem hard fork, scheduled for the evening of July 18. The upgrade, approved by 77.63% of votes a week earlier, will transition Cardano to protocol version 11 and introduce new Plutus features aimed at significantly reducing the cost of executing smart contracts. This technical update is critically important for the scalability and attractiveness of the platform for DeFi developers.

The market reacted positively to the news: over the past 24 hours, the ADA rate rose by nearly 4%, reaching $0.16.
