IOG, the company that served as the primary developer of the Cardano (ADA) blockchain, has transferred control of the network node in the Haskell language to the community. This step marks a crucial stage in the evolution of the ecosystem, taking decentralization to a new level.
Project founder Charles Hoskinson called this event the "final stage of the Voltaire era." He emphasized that since 2024, IOG and partners have carefully managed the handover process to ensure a smooth and secure transition. The final change in governance is expected to be completed in 2027.
A key feature of the new stage is the creation of a competitive environment among developers. It is planned that several independent companies will maintain at least three implementations of the Cardano protocol on the Haskell, Rust, and Go stacks. This not only increases the network's fault tolerance but also stimulates innovation.
Van Rossem Hard Fork and Market Reaction
The transfer of rights occurred on the eve of the activation of the Van Rossem hard fork, which was approved by the community with 77.63% of votes in favor. The update, scheduled for the evening of July 18, will transition Cardano to protocol version 11 and introduce new Plutus features aimed at reducing the cost of executing smart contracts.
The market reacted positively to this news. Over the day, ADA rose nearly 4%, reaching the $0.16 mark. This suggests that investors perceive decentralization as a positive signal, increasing the long-term value of the asset.
Let me remind you that in June, the Cardano Foundation canceled the Cardano Summit 2026 in Singapore due to the failure of an on-chain vote on funding. This event showed that the community is becoming more demanding regarding resource allocation.
My comment: Transferring control of the node is not just a technical step but a crucial signal of the ecosystem's maturity. Cardano demonstrates that decentralization can be implemented not only at the consensus level but also at the development level. However, the true test will be the community's ability to effectively coordinate the work of competing development teams. If successful, Cardano could become a benchmark for other blockchains striving for full autonomy.
