The Cardano ecosystem is taking a historic step: Input Output Global (IOG), previously the main developer of the blockchain, has officially transferred control of the network node in the Haskell language to the independent community. This event marks the completion of another stage of decentralization — now not only the protocol and governance, but also the network's engineering itself is moving under collective control.

"Cardano's protocol and governance are already decentralized. Now its engineering is too," IOG emphasized.

Project founder Charles Hoskinson called this event "the last stage of the Voltaire era." According to him, the process of transferring authority has been carefully overseen since 2024. The final completion of the governance change is scheduled for 2027. Under the new model, several independent companies will maintain at least three implementations of Cardano on the Haskell, Rust, and Go stacks, ensuring technological resilience and eliminating dependence on a single developer.

The transfer of rights occurred on the eve of the activation of the Van Rossem hard fork, which will be applied to the main network on the evening of July 18. This upgrade, approved by 77.63% of votes a week earlier, will transition Cardano to protocol version 11 and introduce new Plutus features aimed at reducing the cost of executing smart contracts.

The market reacted positively: over the past 24 hours, ADA quotes rose by nearly 4% to $0.16. On the 15-minute chart of ADA/USDT on Binance, a steady upward trend is visible, confirming investor interest in the decentralization news.

Recall that in June, the Cardano Foundation canceled the Cardano Summit 2026 in Singapore due to a failed on-chain funding vote — this once again highlighted that the community now plays a decisive role in the network's fate.

My Analysis

The transfer of node control is a key signal of Cardano's maturity as a decentralized platform. However, the real resilience of this model will only be tested in 2027, when several independent teams begin competing to support different implementations. If the process goes smoothly, Cardano could become a benchmark for other blockchains striving for full decentralization without losing efficiency.
