Starting July 20, Anthropic's flagship language model — Claude Fable 5 — will become available across all Max and Team Premium subscription plans. However, it's important to understand: access will be limited to 50% of the established subscription limits. This means that active users accustomed to unlimited sessions will face new constraints, which could impact their workflows in high-load scenarios.
Users on Pro and Team Standard plans will not receive direct inclusion of the model in their subscription. Instead, they will retain access to Claude Fable 5 through a credit system at API rates. As compensation for the wait and restrictions, Anthropic will one-time credit $100 to the balance of each such account. This is a reasonable step to retain the loyalty of less expensive subscribers, who may be disappointed by the lack of direct access.
Anthropic explains this phased and cautious rollout as a response to unpredictable demand for computing resources. The company has already extended test access windows several times as it brings additional server capacity online. This indicates that infrastructure limitations remain a key bottleneck for scaling even the most advanced AI models.
Anthropic's investments in expanding data centers and GPU clusters are expected to continue, and in the coming quarters we may see the removal of limits for all subscribers. For now, the market receives a signal: demand for agentic AI models of the Fable 5 class significantly exceeds current cloud infrastructure capabilities.
My take: This strategy is a classic example of balancing ambition with reality. Anthropic is clearly laying the groundwork for commercializing its most powerful model, but rushing could lead to disruptions. A gradual rollout is the right move, but investors should closely monitor the pace of infrastructure expansion: it will be the main driver of revenue growth in 2024.
