The Russian market for cross-border crypto settlements is following the launch scenario of digital financial assets (DFAs). This path is marked by a long cycle from the first conversation with a client to an actual deal, low returns in the initial stages, and a huge amount of work in educating the market. We are observing a classic situation where the technology is already ready, but the infrastructure of perception and demand is still being formed.
The key difficulty lies not in the technological aspects, but in the need to create a market literally from scratch. According to our assessment, at the initial stage, clients do not see the practical value of the new instrument. The path from the first presentation to signing a contract turns out to be disproportionately long. This requires enormous time and resource expenditures from market participants on explanatory work.
High entry cost and low returns at the start
The second important lesson we learned from the DFA experience is the entry cost for a bank or financial organization. The early stage requires massive investments in marketing, negotiations, and client base education. At the same time, returns in the initial stages remain extremely low, creating a serious challenge for the business model.
A separate problem is communicating the pricing mechanism to the client. Many market participants simply do not understand how to compare the new instrument with already available ones and how to objectively assess whether it is expensive or cheap. Without solving this educational task, the mass adoption of crypto settlements will remain in question.
Cryptalist expert opinion: The crypto settlement market in Russia is in the "educational broth" phase, where the main value lies not in transactions, but in forming the correct perception. Those players who are now investing in client education are laying the foundation for future leadership. However, without clear regulatory signals and understandable tariff models, this process could drag on for years, as has already happened with DFAs.
